Autumn Decorating Ideas to Honor God in the Season

A break in the heat finally brings the crisp feel of autumn to my home on the Central Coast of California. Finally. Fall is my favorite time of year, and I look forward to the first day that signals the weather is adjusting to the calendar. Time to decorate.

Out come the two boxes of fall decor with the warm scent of cinnamon candles. It only takes a few hours to put the summer decor away and arrange the yellows, oranges, and reds of autumn leaves, candles, pumpkins, and Indian corn that color my front porch and the inner sanctuary of my home.

Honoring the seasons is one of the ways I honor the God of the seasons (see Genesis 1:14).

Since fall is the season of harvest, the scents and colors of fall bring thankfulness to the forefront long before Thanksgiving Day arrives.

Foods I don’t cook the rest of the year grace my dinner table and accentuate the grace that flows as our dinner prayer.

A few years ago I updated most of my fall decor and passed on the cute fall items of the past to my daughters who also decorate for the seasons.

Now my grandchildren can ask their mothers the questions of “Why” and hear the stories of the God who provides, and why we offer him gratitude and thanks (see Joshua 4:1-7.)

So where do you start with ideas for fall decorating? Well, I’ve rounded up some sites that can get your creative juices flowing.

Those were some cute ideas. There was a time in my life I would have rushed to do something ike that, but now my fall decor consists of books, student work, and lesson plans spread across my desk and office floor. An added warm touch currently is the wire that runs across my hall wall and into my office to hardwire my computer in since Wi-fi is on rebellious leave! The kitchen table, which is covered with placemats to cover the white heat stains from foolishly leaving fresh-baked bread on them, is decorated with old mail and crumbs. I think I need a vacation.

Yes, you need a vacation, Lilly. Your comment brought a smile to my day and a reminder to go through the stack of mail sitting on my entry way table. Thanks for sharing your decorating reality.
