Heaven Walks Beside You

Heaven is realCushioned fields of velvety-soft, green grass sprinkled with bright-colored flowers scenting the air with lavender and honeysuckle. Laughter rippling the blue, blue sky as a familiar voice calls your name. You know this place. At least you think you do.You've never been here, but you have. It just feels so right. And ... then it hits you. It's Heaven ... and you're home.Yet, you've always been here. Sort-of.I used to think of Heaven as a far off place where I would someday go. It was out there—before me. Outside of time. But I've experienced enough of the supernatural realm to know that Heaven is not like that. Heaven walks beside me.

Heaven is real

The realm of the spirit is separate from us, but not far away. Perhaps it would help to think of it as a unique dimension existing beside you and only hidden by a thin veil. Sometimes you can see through that veil—a little. It might be fuzzy, but you can sense or feel something that you know isn't of our world.Maybe it's just the awareness of peace washing over you, or the beautiful dream that won't leave you even as your hours fill with everyday tasks. A whiff of a song lingering in the back of your mind. The memory of laughing with a loved one now gone, but still close. You can sense Heaven—your spirit knows its way home. Deep inside, you long for a place you've never seen or touched, yet everything within you responds to a homing beacon deposited in your spirit the moment you came to know Jesus.Heaven is real. More real than the furniture you're sitting on or the scent that surrounds you as you cook dinner.

And most important . . .

There are people there that love you. That cheer you on as you push through your everyday struggles. They're part of the great cloud of witness spoken of in Hebrews 12:1. And they'll be waiting at Heaven's gate when you arrive. To welcome you home. And Jesus. He'll be there. Calling your name. And it will be real. Very real. And you'll know that every tear, every battle, every struggle ... was worth it.Don't get so caught up in the busyness of life that you forget the life waiting for you. Your eternal life. The life Jesus talked about in John 3:16.So go for it. Look for signs of heaven all around you. Let God show himself to you. Delight in the joys awaiting you.Let people say you're odd because you sense Heaven. Someday they'll know you knew what you were talkin' about and they will marvel.Because Heaven walks beside you. I know it.
