How to Nail the Faithfulness Challenge

Hi,I’ve been thinking a lot about Easter and consistency lately.Sometimes life feels like you need to apply the saying of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and just ride the wave of your current Christian experience. This might apply if you’ve talking about your dishwasher.Or, maybe your not-so-perfect job.But not your spiritual legacy.

Staying Power

One of the fundamental things in building a legacy of faith is this: staying power. You have to know how to “hang in there” when the going gets tough......or when life seems boring, which is sometimes harder. You build a successful legacy slowly. Year, after year. Day, after day.Staying power is how you STAY the course, climb the mountain, and finish the race. You just choose to, and figure out what you need to do to make it happen. No spiritual journey stays the same forever: circumstances change ... even if we don't want them to.And a boring life isn't what you wanted or expected either. But if you’ve got staying power, you can adapt and grow when your life encounters situations you weren't expecting.

Staying power and moving forward

So how does staying power help you move forward in your journey? After all, "staying power" and "moving forward" don't seem to mix well.It starts with a commitment to do whatever it takes to push in deeper in your relationship with Jesus. It continues with practicing the spiritual disciplines that daily pull you into God:

  • worship
  • Scripture study
  • a daily prayer life
  • serving others
  • connecting with other believers in real community

The Bible has a word for this type of consistency. It's called faithfulness. And that, my friend, is what Easter is all about...

... Faithfulness

Jesus had the staying power needed to move forward into His destiny.

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross (Philippians 2:8 NIV).

He practiced the same spiritual disciplines we're called to.And that faithfulness kept Him close to His Father—hearing His Father's voice, sensing His guidance, and knowing His love.Even when He faced the hardest experience of His life ... His ugly, painful, sin-filled death. And He carried you, and your sins, through it with Him.

The cool thing is ...

... you've got that same staying power living inside you. He's called the Holy Spirit. All He needs from you is a commitment to action ... the staying power that moves you forward.Year, after year. Day, after day. That's faithfulness ... a consistency that translates into your legacy of faith.

This week

As you prepare your heart for Easter this year, think about the spiritual disciplines in your life that you've let slide into complacency.Pick those babies up and put 'em into action!

Over to you

Now, I'd love to know your tips for "staying power." What have you found helpful to grow and stay the course when life gets hard ... or boring?Cheering you on, because I’m truly honored to be walking this path with you.SusanPS. If you found this post helpful, please share it with a friend. Thanks!
