Welcome to my blog. I’m Susan Gaddis and I reside on the beautiful Central Coast of California amid the rolling hills and oak trees. As a Christian, I am learning to walk with the Holy in the ordinary twists and turns of daily life.
Therese of Lisieux, in her Story of a Soul, said that Christ was most abundantly present to her not “during my hours of prayer . . . but rather in the midst of my daily occupations.” What a wonderful approach to a sometimes-boring life—engaging Christ in our ordinary chores and activities!
I also appreciate how Kathleen Norris regards the ordinary. “It is the daily tasks, daily acts of love and worship that serve to remind us that our religion is not strictly an intellectual pursuit . . . but a way of life.”
This blog tracks my reflections as a woman, wife, mother, author, and pastor, trying to experience the Holy in the daily. I think that most believers expect to encounter holy as special, exciting, or extraordinary. I have learned that holy doesn’t always feel good.
For example, musing with the Lord over my morning cup of coffee evokes a feeling of peace, while self-evaluation suggests another emotion entirely. Counseling those whom I serve is often holy time. But when I’m at the other end of the couch, the experience may not seem so sacred.
The adventure of finding the Holy in the daily, then, takes many twists and turns. I invite you to join me on my journey of discovery.
If you are interested in my life history, a personal and professional bio resides on my author website.
In Him together, Susan Gaddis
